The Friends of the Troy Public Library is a member supported, non-profit organization. It was founded in 1972 with the purpose of stimulating interest in and support for the Troy Public Library by encouraging the community to become a member, contribute funds, buy gently used books and donate time through volunteering.
The Friends support programs, services, and special projects for the Library. We underwrite:

- The Adult Summer Reading program
- The Museum Pass Program providing access to 19 area museums
- Books, e-books, streaming services, and hotspots for the library
- Staff appreciation events and Library events such as the Fall Fest, the Big Truck Day and the School Supply Drive
- Infrastructure upgrades and enhancements that enhance the experience of patrons

In 24-25 these purchases included:
- New Computers at the library for staff and patrons
- A handicap accessible ramp at the Lansingburgh branch
- A temporary wall at Lansingburgh
- Security cameras at Main
- An air conditioner and color printer at Lansingburgh
